Bill Belichick is angry about the story that broke a month ago that suggested he “hates” free-agent quarterback Tim Tebow as a player.

In the report, Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports wrote that based on his interviews with “organizational sources,” it was very unlikely the Patriots would be interested in signing Tebow. One of the sources, Silver wrote, said Belichick “hates” Tebow as a player.

Belichick didn’t respond at the time but now strongly denies the report.

“I wouldn’t get into the probability of us pursuing any free agent,” Belichick told ESPNBoston.com. “Every single player has strengths and weaknesses but regardless of that, for anyone to have represented that is the way I feel about Tim Tebow is completely untrue, baseless and irresponsible. It is unfortunate that something so inaccurate was reported.”

Belichick, who had Tebow in for a predraft visit in 2010, has long been rumored to be enamored with Tebow because of the versatility he offers. For that reason, some thought he might try to acquire Tebow when the Broncos put him on the trade market or sign him when the Jets released him. But Belichick opted to pass in both cases.
